Build

A build is the way a Pokémon's moveset and stats are set up, and usually used in competitive play. Often a Pokémon's moves and stats, through EV point calculations, are chosen and selected through careful choices. Usually Pokémon will be bred until they have desirable IVS and will be trained for desirable EV points, before having four moves from their movepool chosen for the moveset.

Trainers often look at Pokémon’s base stats and movepool before a build is decided for them, as the stats and movepool will depend on how effective they will be in competitive battles. Often a build is created so that both the moveset and stats work together. There are many different kind of builds. Some, for example, are meant for a Pokémon to be a physical attacker, special attacker, physical wall, Spiker, etc. The possibilities are endless.

The metagame and placement of tiers can also determine the best build for a Pokémon. Since the metagame and placement of tiers are known to change, builds created for Pokémon may also change.

There are several websites that give suggestions and recommendations for all sorts of different builds for any Pokémon. However as the metagame changes, sometimes these websites don't reflect on the changes. POLWiki, however, will list build suggestions for Pokémon that will change as the metagame changes.
