Competitive Play is strategic Player vs. Player, often appearing in tournaments.

Distinguished from casual play, fierce competition awaits anyone who desires to join. The metagame has evolved to include certain rules and has developed tiers.

It is recommended to have a thorough knowledge of Individual Values and Effort Values before battling competitively.

This is a complete list of all rules/battle clauses that will appear in POL, it is subject to change. Feel free to note errors and such...

  • No Bag Use - Players cannot use bag items. This does not restrict Held Items.
  • Free - Players can have up to 6 Pokémon in their party.
  • Time Attack - Players must issue a command within a specific and reasonable period of time, or they automatically forfeit.
  • Win - Players can win by defeating the opponent.

Players can also add Clauses to PvP battles, which are displayed along with any issued challenges before they are accepted.

Battle Results

Battles can end in many ways, here's how POL treats them:

  • Win - Player has defeated their opponent.
  • Lose - Player has been defeated by their opponent.
  • Tie - Player and Opponent are both out of usable Pokémon.
  • Stalemate - Neither player's teams can continue, but remain undefeated. Treated as a Tie. (Result of Trapped)
  • Interrupted - Battle is not placed on record. Exception is for Player Disconnect interruptions, which after the time limit's end, result in a win for the remaining player, and a loss for the disconnected player. If both players are disconnected, the battle is not placed on record.
